harmony?

today's topic is living in a diversified community.

nowadays there are still many people,
being racist or commenting about appearance of gender?
but why is it so? did you ever think about
how the person feels when being criticized?
are you one of them spreading rumors?
being racist and detesting people of different gender,
or looking at them from a different aspect or view?
if you are one then you ought to reflect on it.
please leave comments of thoughts,
but also do not be vulgar or crude,
if not one will be banned.

to be honest, even if we read this, everyone will continue to do the same, unless they get scolded, which can make them take a turn for the better or worst, worst= they rebel and do it more, better = they get slapped awake and become a better person, but honestly, 70% of the people never follow this example, even if they say they will.

Just imagine you're putting some racist remarks of your friend who is of another race, just make sure you apologize to him/her after you're done coz they might feel bad that you're thinking that way of them and might go into "emo" state unless you get what I mean. For the appearance of gender and etc, I think that some people can't really control why they are thinking that way so I have no comment on it. (Some of my comments may seem useless but at least I hope I get my point straight.)

just beacause someone is of a different color or follow a different
god or religion , does not mean they can be criticised adn bullied . appearances , gender & anything its up to them who they want to be .
we should give them respect as this really reflects how we ourselves are morally educated by our parents , teachers and friends . we live in multi-racial community , we should respect and sometimes take time to understand why some races do that particular sort of thing & this will allow other foreign races to have a mindset that singapore is a place where no matter what you are or who you are so that they can have peace when living here ..
treat others as you would want others to treat you ~ (:

some people are just jealous of other races.. Thats why they criticise each other? The malays are jealous of the chinese? Thats why riots happen? I think mostly, the problem is on the government..
If the government is a malay.. he might give the malays a better advantage on things more than the other races.. But luckily i think tt singapore government are well managed for (the time being..) because in the future, government might change.. riots might happen again..

In my opinion,i think that no one is perfect and we should not judge the book by its cover.. Even though i say this a few million times, there are still some people all there promoting racism and it is all up to they to live harmoniously in our community.

In a diversified community, we should really learn how to control our tongue and not to insult other people. Nobody is perfect, including you and me. It is also a matter of respect. Harmony is in fact one of those important values. Do not be racist. Different people have different perspectives, yes, however, we can learn to consider the thoughts of others. Put a stop to all those gossips about the people of different gender, religion, race and all that.

I do have to agree with krystal. We should respect each other, be it their races or gender. We shall not be racist with others and we should refrain from any disputes or conflicts.

I think that if you want to comment on others first ask yourself one question "Am I perfect". If you say you are, then you are completely lying to yourself because nobody is perfect. So next time if you want to comment on other think first.

True. As the one who being criticized on, I always thinks that it is unfair to be commented by appearance. People always said that " Do not judge the book by its cover". However, how many people will actually practice it? Thus I think that people's thinking of appearances and gender can't be changed so quickly and much.

ok.. look at the candidate running for president. obama. he's the first black man who might be elected as president of USA.many people support him. so i think we shldnt judge ppl on how they look, their race and all that. after all, we're all humans living on earth.

i think people shld not comment bout the appearance of anyone. the person will feel bad when being criticized. after all, we are all humans, and must be treated fairly. we shld respect one another, and hm, live in harmony. haha, yeah.

Everybody is racist as we look at our appearances, our race, our skin colours and alot of other things.. Like in the past where people calls the black Niggas and now they would still continue doing so in US. Let's put this issue nearer to us, our friends/families would sometimes comment some racists stuff on other race like why so many .... around here.. and stuff like that. So I think we can only minimise such problems by controlling our mouths but we can't really stop the entire global from racism.

yah , ppl can't choose who they want to be . they are born with it . who want to be left out by others just because of their looks or race?

Living in a diversified community, respect, harmony, etc. is important, as if treat others if you want others to treat you. Treat everyone equally but not giving negative remarks about them.
Yeah, sometimes i do think im one of them detesting people of different gender, age & race, but i think we should really ought to reflect on our past thinkings. One's appearance, gender, race, or even their personalities were not what they wanted since the day they were born, as everyone is not perfect. We cannot dislike or even look down on them just because they are different in some ways or appearances. While we should respect others and put ourselves in their shoes, instead of talking bad behind them about their appearances, gender, races, etc.

it definately should be condemned. Look at our own history. Look all around the world. How boring can it get if the world only consist of one race, one culture, one religion and so on and so forth? i don't know about you guys, but i would sure be bored to hell like crap. Furthermore rumour spreading is so.... childish. yeayea, it may be fun for you people spreading those rumours, but have you thought about those people that you spread rumours about? Have you ever even considered that that person's feeling may be hurt and just because of your so called "fun" you actually influences the way people view that person? Horrbie to the ones who spread rumours. Try being the victim, let's see how much you like it. If you have any comments about a particular person, keep it to yourself. No need to broadcast your opinions about that person. You are not a radio station for goodness sake. You don't get paid for broadcasting your own views. So you might as well just shut, and keep your views to yourself yeah? You those that does all the rumour spreading and all... if you want to drag yourself into this silly and childish act, go ahead. But note that you don't drag your family's reputation into it.

i guess it's not about the racism or critisism anymore.its about feeling superior over others who we discriminate. The want and NEED for attention of popularity, people needed to feel that they were cooler. And the only way to do that is,through making others lower.it is not something commentable ..i guess since really, such stuff is not only globally but in our own schools..As kids we learn but learning doesn't equals being.Or feeling.sometimes, its more than just hurting others... ..we can say respect we can say acceptance we can say harmony but these are afterall words of smartass wits/guts.Even so,we all have to admit that being cool is making others seem less cool than you.
the world is not about what you learn anymore its about love.
when one love,one gives:)
it works both ways.
i guess!

Information (Credits to http://www.answers.com/topic/disabled-persons?cat=biz-fin)

Approximately 43 million people in the United States are physically or mentally disabled. Like individuals of various races, colors, religions, genders, and national origins, individuals with physical or mental limitations historically have faced discrimination in that a rational basis for treating members of other excluded groups differently rarely exists, whereas a person's disability may hinder his or her abilities and may provide a rational basis for different treatment. Thus, the mere fact that an individual with a disability is treated differently is insufficient for a finding of illegal discrimination.
Another frequently noted difference between discrimination based on disability and discrimination based on race, color, religion, gender, and national origin is the attitude behind the discrimination. For example, discrimination based on race tends to be rooted in hostility toward a different race. On the other hand, discrimination based on disability is often caused by discomfort and pity, or misguided compassion that materializes as paternalistic and patronizing behavior. For example, a restaurant owner who fails to provide a wheelchair ramp to the restaurant's entrance is more likely to be guilty of failing to consider the needs of patrons than of expressing a dislike of wheelchair users. Whatever its roots, discrimination impedes those with disabilities from obtaining jobs they are qualified to perform, access to some buildings and modes of transportation, and the independence and dignity that nondisabled people take for granted.

Ok hmm i think looks is nothing compare to the heart in their chest which is not the physical heart but the mental and their thinking. As long as u think with no evil thoughts, the community will leave in harmony and as long as they dont fight for things and just giv it to others and IF everyone hav such a good "heart" THE WORLD WILL PEACE and thus lead to no war and then the air will be better and prosper and then there wont be global warmming and then the heat will not melt the ice and then making an iceage commming soon =( (maybe not true)

Yeah, I think people should really respect others so that others will respect them too. They shouldn't just give bad comments to people from other races and only leave the good comments for people from their race. And Singapore is a multi-racial country. So being racist would most likely happen here. But I think that they should think before the start commenting or criticising people.

When people comment someone about their appearance or being racist, the person being commented will somehow get abit of mentally hurt. But there are sayings that humans are selfish, they dun care about others' feelings, they also care about themselves being happy or not.
